Prof. Hee Jeung Oh Co-Organized the 2023 APS DPOLY’s Short Course “Polymer Physics of Separation Membranes”

We are delighted to share that Prof. Hee Jeung Oh co-organized the 2023 American Physical Society (APS) Division of Polymer Physics (DPOLY)’s 2-day Short Course entitled “Polymer Physics of Separation Membranes”on March 4-5, 2023 in Las Vegas.

The “Polymer Physics of Separation Membranes” Short Course took place on March 4-5, 2023 at the American Physical Society (APS) March Meeting in Las Vegas, NV. Together with Prof. William Phillip at the University of Notre Dame, this short course provided an opportunity to bring together a set of intellectually diverse researchers from academia, industry, and national labs to discuss the polymer physics of polymer membranes and how such understanding facilitates precise control over mass transfer and addresses long-standing challenges in the field.

Topics included the use of polymer separation membranes at the Water-Energy nexus, the multiscale characterization of polymers, and non-equilibrium manufacturing processes used in industry. The course offered 9 lectures (40 min each) followed by interactive discussions to engage participants.

The short course had 55 in-person participants and 9 invited lecturers from academia, industry, and national labs. Graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, and early-career professionals were a significant fraction of the participants. The short course provided an opportunity to engage the next generation of scientists and engineers on addressing the challenges associated with polymer separation membranes. In addition to the technical content, the short course offered important opportunities for early-career researchers to network with established leaders in the field.

The support from the NSF funded travel scholarships to enable graduate student participation in the short course.
